Finally, A Viable Solution: RI gov to shut down state government

In the face of bankruptcy,
Rhode Island will shut down its state government for 12 days and hopes to trim millions of dollars in funding for local governments under a plan Gov. Don Carcieri outlined Monday to balance a budget hammered by surging unemployment and plummeting tax revenue.

...Critical workers such as state police, prison guards and child abuse investigators still will report to work during the shutdown", Carcieri said.

What's amusing to me is that this is regarded as a crisis. What else should the state be doing except these "critical" functions? The only problem I see with this plan is it lasts only 12 days.

Now, if only the Illinois government would follow suit...

They'd likely get a lot more accomplished through their inaction than what they accomplish through their actions.

But we have a frustrating senate race for Obama's old seat next fall... The frontrunner for the GOP, Mark Kirk, is currently in the House and he voted FOR Cap & Trade... Luckily he is against Obamacare-- so all is not completely lost... But unless someone better comes along we'll have a choice between a liberal Republican and a liberal Democrat... blech!

Illinois is behind only New York and California as the worst of all states politically. Chicago is a cesspool.

Wow, this is great news. If every government office were to adopt a 4 day "workweek" (for we all know they do no work....) we'd all save a ton in taxes and be waaaaay better off.
